Q. How can I get a traffic ticket for a mechanical violation signed off?

Most mechanical violations (fix-it tickets) can be signed off after the appropriate corrections have been made. Bring the citation and the vehicle to the Vista Sheriff's Station during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). A charge of $15.00 is required for this service.

Q. I have been notified that I have property at the Station. How can I get it back?

If you wish to have property returned to you from Sheriff's evidence, please contact the station during business hours at (760) 940-4551 and make the necessary arrangements.

Q. I need to get fingerprints taken. When can I do this and how much does it cost?

For fingerprints, come to the Vista Station during business hours. The fee is $6.00 per fingerprint card. Payment may be made by cash or check. If paying by check, proper identification must be presented. Valid identification such as driver's license or passport must be presented by the person requesting the fingerprints.

Q. How do I obtain a copy of a traffic or crime report?

Copies of all reports taken by Vista Sheriff's Station personnel are retained for two years at the station. After two years, requests should be referred to the Sheriff's Records Division (858) 974-2110. The fee for a report copy is $20.00. There is no charge for the first copy of a crime report provided to a victim. Crime reports may be released with the authorization of the detective assigned to the report. However, there may be some circumstances in which no report will be released.

Traffic accident reports may be released to any party to the collision, their attorney or insurance company. You must appear in person at the Vista Sheriff's Station. Insurance companies may be sent copies via mail.

Q. How do I obtain a restraining order?

Questions concerning the issuance and service of restraining orders should be referred to the Sheriff's Court Services (619) 531-4179.

Q. What should I do if I'm pulled over by a traffic officer?

Carefully move to the right side of the roadway and stop in a safe place. Stay in your car. Roll down the window and take no further action until you are instructed by the deputy. Whenever you drive, ensure that you have your driver's license, vehicle registration and proof of insurance with you.

Q: I received a "Notice of Traffic Violation" or "Traffic Violation Notice" and I'm not the driver, what do I do?

For a "Notice of Traffic Violation" you can complete the "Affidavit of Non Liability" form that is included with the Notice. That form allows you to check the box "The person named below was the driver of the vehicle" and complete all of the blank sections below the check box, i.e.: Drivers Name, Driver License Number, Date of Birth, Mailing address, etc.

For a "Traffic Violation Notice" the back side of the Notice has three check boxes, including "The person named below was the driver of the vehicle". Complete all of the blank sections below the check box, i.e.: Drivers Name, Driver License Number, Date of Birth, Mailing address, etc.

All information regarding the driver of the vehicle should match the individuals Drivers License EXACTLY.

After completing the correct form, please make a copy of your Drivers License and enclose both documents in the self addressed envelope that was provided and mail these items to:

Q: I received a "Notice of Traffic Violation" or "Traffic Violation Notice" and I sold the vehicle, what do I do?

For a "Notice of Traffic Violation" you can complete the "Affidavit of Non Liability" form that is included with the Notice. That form allows you to check the box "I sold the vehicle prior to the violation date to the person named below" and complete all of the blank sections below the check box, i.e.: Drivers Name, Driver License Number, Date of Birth, Mailing address, etc.

For a "Traffic Violation Notice" the back side of the Notice has three check boxes, including "I sold the vehicle prior to the violation date to the person named below". Complete all of the blank sections below the check box, i.e.: Drivers Name, Driver License Number, Date of Birth, Mailing address, etc.

All information regarding the driver of the vehicle should match the individuals Drivers License EXACTLY.

*Note: If your vehicle was traded in for a new vehicle, please list the name and address of the Dealership that took possession of your vehicle.

If your vehicle was repossessed, please give the name and address of the Finance Company that completed the repossession.

After completing the correct form, please make a copy of your Drivers License and enclose both documents in the self addressed envelope that was provided and mail these items to:

Q: I received a "Notice of Traffic Violation" and I was the driver, what do I do?

If you have received a "Notice of Traffic Violation" please check the printed citation area next to the four color photographs and make sure all of your personal information is correct. If your personal information is correct, look at the bottom of the Notice to see "When" you have to appear in court by and "Where" the court is located at.

The San Diego County Superior Courts' North County Division usually mails a "Courtesy Notice" about 1-2 weeks after you receive your "Notice of Traffic Violation". This "Courtesy Notice" will explain the "Bail Amount" (Fine), whether or not your eligible to attend Traffic School, the Court Fees to process your Traffic School Certificate, a list of approved Schools and instructions on how to plead "Guilty", "Not Guilty", "No Contest" or handle your Trial via mail "Trial by Declaration".

*Note: If you do not receive a "Courtesy Notice", it is your responsibility to contact the San Diego County Superior Courts' North County Division prior to, or on the Court date printed on your "Notice of Traffic Violation". (Courts telephone number 760-806-2444)

Failing to do so can cause civil assessments, Credit Bureau notification, Drivers license suspension and possibly a Warrant issued for your arrest.

That form allows you to check the box "The person named below was the driver of the vehicle" and complete all of the blank sections below the check box with your Drivers license information, i.e.: Drivers Name, Driver License Number, Date of Birth, Mailing address, etc.

Q: I want to see the video that is included with my violation, how do I do that?
